  • How a PT saved me

    Deep down, do you realise that you must do something to improve your health and lifestyle? That inner knowing that day after day, your fitness has slowly been eroding due to your diet and sedentary lifestyle?

    Well you’re not the only one. In fact, in 2014 a WHO study found that 84% of the adult population in England were either overweight or obese. Compared to 20 years earlier, it’s quite alarming to see that back then, the figure was 63%.

    It’s not difficult to find the reasons why we have an obesity crisis in this country. Cheap and plentiful food, loaded with the wrong things, like sugar & saturated fats.

    However, any who is overweight or obese does have the opportunity to do something about it and things can change in a dramatic way.

    Why am I so confident of saying that?

    Because I too was once obese, weighing in the bathroom scales at 17 stones. I hid it well though, thanks to my height of 6 foot 1 inch.

    Once I had my moment of clarity that I was going to lose weight and get fit, that’s when things started to changed.

    I started drinking freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices for breakfast, lunch and something dinner. I also started to exercise too. Not a lot, but 3-4 times a week. It soon became apparent that I need expert guidance with exercise as I didn’t really have a clue what I should be doing.

    That’s when I found a personal trainer to help me.

    Now, you might be thinking, “I don’t need someone to tell me how to exercise”, but that’s where I’d disagree. A personal trainer will first discuss what your fitness goals are, for example weight loss for a forthcoming event or to take part in running event. From there, he or she will devise a training and nutrition plan to follow so that you move closer to reaching your goals.

    In my case, I want to lose fat and improve my ParkRun personal best time. The trainer I hired had plenty of experience and qualifications but what also helped was having a personality too!

    He’s made exercise fun and engaging which isn’t something I thought I’d ever say back when I was unfit and overweight. My weight dropped from 17 stones to 13 stones and has remained there thanks to regular personal training sessions and sensible eating and I must thank Coventry personal trainer, Dean Clarke for that.

    Back in 2013, at my first training session with Dean, I remember thinking “wow, this is hard”, but at the same time having a sense of satisfaction that this exactly the person I needed to get me to love exercise. Since then, my fitness has improved and I now the fittest I’ve ever been.

    Wherever you’re based, it’s likely they’ll be personal trainers near you who can help you become fitter and healthier. Be sure to do your research and ask for referrals if you possibly can and don’t get drawn into signing lengthy contracts. Any good personal trainer won’t ask for minimum contracts and will simply work month to month with you.

    I suggest you make a start by searching online for fitness and personal trainers in your area. Some work in gyms or there own spaces while others will travel to you for workouts in your own home.…
